Hi! great tutorial.
But i i'am facing a problem with the first Directory Structure.
I want to use Zend_Layout for templating. The layout file just containt HTML, but some modules need to access some pictures in it owns directories. How can i reference these picture so they can be displayed from the Action Controllers?

Great job on the pager. One thing that i am not clear on however, is there a way to set the _itemsPerPage property in Riskle_Db_Table_Paginate class?

I noticed also in the view helper that there was a syntax error in the default html. you start with a <p> but end with a </li> for the previous and next functions.

Can't we just change the getInstance() method with a factory() method instead ? We will place this factory() in the parent abstract class, so all "routes" should be generated from it. This factory method will keep one instance per class, so when asked twice or more times for an instance of a class previously loaded, it will return the one it has stored.

To do this, we got to have a common abstract class that all routes will extend. In this abstract class we will place this factory() method like this:

Zend_Controller_Router_Route_Abstract::factory('Xend_Controller_Router_Route_Modified');

What do you think ?

Rather than doing that, perhaps you should just define the route to use in the bootstrap with setRoute. That has worked pretty well for me.

Something along the lines of...
Zend_Controller_Front::getInstance()->getRouter()->setRoute('default', new Route_Win());

As far as I know the problem stems from a MySQL limitation, not supporting FULL OUTER JOIN. I've seen some hacks that use UNIONs to get the desired result but I'm not sure how well it would translate to the framework and unfortunately don't have the time to investigate right now. If I get some free time and find a better method I'll post it. :-)

Once again thanks for the patch :-) While I not found this a very clean way of doing things, it'll do the job for the moment as I can't think (did not take the time to think actually) of another way to fix the problem.

Concerning the _fetch thing, I can't believe I did not think of it earlier. Patching at the lower level seems the way to go.

Once again thanks for the code. I think you mean previous() instead of prev() though.

Another small fix, if you have 2 tables that don’t completely map together (ex: you have a log table that maps it’s user id to a user table, if one of the user ids doesn’t exist the log row will get ignored) the fetchAll will return the filtered rows and the fetchCount will return them all (in my case fetchAll returned 260 and fetchCount returned 262, so I had 1 extra page that had no entries)

To fix it you just need to apply the parent mapping to fetchCount, I had to also add a variable to _applyParentMap so it didn’t try to select the mapped fields when selecting the count.

Also, while I was attempting to fix this I might’ve stumbled upon an easier way to apply the parent map to fetchRow and fetchAll. First I removed fetchAll , fetchRow, and _makeRowset. Then I added a copy of Zend_Db_Table_Abstract’s _fetch method with _applyParentMap inside it. It seemed to work fine in my tests, I didn’t include it in the patch since I haven’t tested it much but you might want to look at it sometime.

As more and more people are using it, I'm sure the Zend Framework will come up with a specific and complete ORM solution. I just wish it won't rely on xml description files like propel, which I agree is a pain.

while propel is certainly a good way to handle ORM, it is not (yet ?) the way to do things in ZF (for some reasons, like "no third-party dependency" or somtehing like that I guess). Thus I'm sticking with the ZF way, which is not necessarily very clear on why we do things, as you point out on your blog with Zend_Json.

Plus I don't like propel (for having used it in symofny) :)

Il y a un problème dans le fichier "Zend/Db/Table/Row.php". Le tag PHP d'ouverture est mal écrit ce qui rend inutilisable ce package.

Le problème est présent dans la distribution officielle et a été corrigé dans le SVN. Celle-ci devrait donc prochainement être mise à jour.

Ok, merci pour vos infos ... quelques lignes qui suffisent à m'éclaicir les idées, d'autant qu'entre-temps je me suis penché sur Zend_Db_Table_Row et consorts et que ça colle avec ce que j'ai en tête.

Au passage, j'espère que tu as des retours s'agissant de ton idée de blog collaboratif fracophone. C'est le bon moment pour un sujet qui me semble promis à un bel avenir ... tant que le zf en aura un. Mais je ne me fais pas trop de soucis sur ce point ... ils sont tout excités sur le site d'ibm

Au contraire, dans le plus pur style objet, tu associes une classe à une table, on peut appeler ça de différentes manières, moi j'appelle ça du mapping (PEAR appelle ça des DataObject par exemple, cf PEAR::DB_DataObject).

C'est philosophiquement correct, puisqu'une classe = un objet, et que en théorie, si ton design SGBD n'est pas complètement vrillé, une table = un objet également (un objet membre, un objet news, etc).

D'un point de vue plus pragmatique, avoir une classe pour chaque table peut sembler lourd et inutile tant que tu te contentes des actions CRUD de base, mais tu verras dans un prochain article qu'en fait c'est une manière très utile de procéder :-)

Salut, je suis encore un néophyte en php et encore plus en objet. Mais le zf m'interesse pas mal, pour des raisons similaires aux tiennes - au passage, je remarque que tu es assez prolifique sur le sujet et je t'en remercie car la doc "pratique" sur le sujet n'est pas trés variée (mais ça avance).

Voilà, les présentations étant faites, venons-en à ce qui me turlupine...Zend_Db_Table. Lors de mes tests je me suis satisfait de Zend_db pour les CRUD actions. La seule différence étant que la méthode requiert le nom de la table: $db->insert('members',$data);

MAIS...comme je n'aime pas passer pour un ane et que j'ai bien lu ton billet, je suis retourné dans las doc de Zend_Db_Table pour voir les méthodes supplémentaires proposées et ... je me dis que j'aurai peut-être du attendre le suite pour la ramener. Il n'empéche, ce qui me géne c'est une classe par table. Ca colle pas trop avec l'impression que me donne la POO jusqu'à maintenant. Je verrais plus des extensions de méthodes dans Zend_Db.

Bon, le newbie a parlé...et il va attendre la suite de ton article - avec impatience - pour savoir si l'ane qui sommeille en lui s'est réveillé.

C'est en lisant ça que je me dis que je préfère vraiment RoR...

Pour la création de model, c'est pareil (sauf qu'il existe un generator simple pour "préfaire le fichier", ensuite, je pourrai faire ça :

Members.new(:mail => 'blabla', :password => 'prout', :created_on => Time.now).save

Je ne parle même pas de la gestion des paramètres envoyés par GET/POST.

oui* je sais qu'on est pas là pour comparer sans cesse ce qui n'est pas comparable, mais bon, voilà quoi.

Ah Thomas tu as mis le doigt sur le point qui fait mal: il n'y a aucune communauté francophone autour du Zend Framework (a ma connaissance du moins), et c'est bien triste :/

pour Zend_DB, c'est bien PDO_MYSQL qu'il faut utiliser dans la dernière version.

Dans la partie 2 du tutoriel d'IBM (que j'ai survolé TRES vite fait) : http://www-128.ibm.com/developerwor... ils utilisent les sessions (mais j'ai regardé vraiment vite fait). Tu 'las déjà lu ? (PS : il faut être enregistré pour avoi accès autéléchargement du tuto).

Une question ! Je vois ce genre de trucs : $DB = Zend_Db::factory('pdoMysql', $params);

Mais c'est jamais le même 1er argument utilisé, je suppose qu'avec la dernière version (0.1.5) c'est Pdo_Mysql non ? :)

Moi ça m'intéresse de savoir pourquoi tu as décidé d'utiliser le ZendFramework. Il n'est pas stable encore ! Par exemple je m'entraine à m'en servir grâce à des tutos et il sont déjà presque obsolète (bon ok ce mot n'est pas approprié du tout, trop fort) car Zend_InputFilter est devenu Zend_Filter_Input. Ce que je veux dire c'est que lorsque tu voudras mettre à jour le framework Zend dans ton projet il risque d'y avoir pas mal de chose à retoucher ;)
